PLA, PETG or ASA: the hours each one costs

You print parts to sell and use PETG for everything, because it is tougher. For a part that lives indoors, that choice can cost you a third of your printer time. Send us the STL. We slice it in PLA, PETG and ASA on your printer and give you the hours for each, read from the slicer's own result.

Why the choice is hard

Each filament has its own speed. The slicer runs each one at the flow and cooling its maker set, so the same part takes a different time.

It adds up on a batch. PETG adds 18 minutes to this part over PLA. On 300 of them that is 91 printer-hours.

Where the part lives decides. PLA softens in heat. PETG and ASA hold up better in a hot car or outdoors. Indoors, PLA is often enough.

Three real slices, one part

A shell from our small walking robot on a Bambu H2S, 0.20 mm layers, auto-oriented the way our farm plates it, with BambuStudio 2.08's own Bambu PLA Basic, PETG Basic and ASA presets. Sliced on 15 October 2026:

  • PLAbed 55 C35 min 58 s, 13.30 g
  • PETGbed 70 C54 min 07 s, 12.79 g
  • ASAbed 100 C1 h 03 min 46 s, 10.75 g

Now your batch. Pick a filament and how many:

One part at a time, back to back. On this part PETG takes 50 % longer than PLA and ASA 77 % longer. Your part will differ, which is why we slice it.

What you get

The slicer's own numbers
Seconds and grams read off BambuStudio's result, with the exact printer, process and filament presets, so anyone can slice it again and get the same.
Three filaments, side by side
PLA, PETG and ASA on your printer, and the difference over your batch.
The warnings, before the batch
Cantilevers, supports and orientation, found on one part instead of on part 40.
A farm if you want one
We can print the batch across our farms in Shenzhen, at the hours we quoted.
