What fine layers cost you, in hours
You sell printed figures, props or display pieces. Fine layers look better in the photo, but you have never measured what they cost on a batch. Send us the STL. We slice it at fine, standard and draft on your printer and give you the hours for each, read from the slicer's own result.
See the three slicesWhy the choice is hard
Time is not linear. Fewer layers do not mean proportionally less time. Walls, travel and cooling stay the same.
It adds up on a batch. Fine adds 28 minutes to this part. On 300 of them that is 142 printer-hours, more than five days of one printer.
The filament barely moves. The plastic is almost the same at every layer height. What you pay for is printer time.
Three real slices, one part
A shell from our small walking robot, PETG on a Bambu A1, auto-oriented the way our farm plates it, with BambuStudio 2.08's own Fine, Standard and Extra Draft presets. Sliced on 15 October 2026:
- 0.12Fine1 h 27 min 57 s, 12.26 g
- 0.20Standard59 min 33 s, 12.67 g
- 0.28Extra Draft49 min 19 s, 12.67 g
Now your batch. Pick a layer height and how many:
One part at a time, back to back. Fine takes 48 % longer than standard on this part; extra draft saves 17 %. Your part will differ, which is why we slice it.
What you get
- The slicer's own numbers
- Seconds and grams read off BambuStudio's result, with the exact printer, process and filament presets, so anyone can slice it again and get the same.
- Three layer heights, side by side
- Fine, standard and draft on your printer, and the difference over your batch.
- The warnings, before the batch
- Cantilevers, supports and orientation, found on one part instead of on part 40.
- A farm if you want one
- We can print the batch across our farms in Shenzhen, at the hours we quoted.
