What auto supports cost you

You leave supports switched on for every print, to be safe. On parts that do not need them, that costs printer time and plastic you never see. Send us the STL. We slice it with and without supports on your printer, read the slicer's own warnings, and tell you which parts need them and what they cost.

Why supports are not free

The slicer says when. Without supports, BambuStudio warns about floating regions and cantilevers. No warning is your first sign a part may not need them.

Auto adds them anyway. On our board tray the slicer gave no warning, and auto supports still added 16 minutes to every print.

It adds up on a batch. 300 of those trays with supports on is 79 extra printer-hours.

Four parts, with and without

Four parts from our walking robot in PETG on a Bambu A1, 0.20 mm Standard, auto-oriented, sliced with supports off and with BambuStudio's auto supports. Sliced on 15 October 2026:

  • 0 %small bracket, no warning16 min 43 s either way, 0.90 g. Supports add nothing.
  • +12 %body shell, warned: floating cantilever59 min 33 s to 1 h 06 min 53 s, 12.67 to 14.11 g
  • +17 %head shell, warned: floating regions2 h 27 min 59 s to 2 h 52 min 59 s, 31.77 to 41.51 g
  • +19 %board tray, no warning1 h 22 min 35 s to 1 h 38 min 29 s, 33.19 to 36.03 g

Now your batch. Pick a part, supports on or off, and how many:

A part the slicer warns about usually needs its supports, or a better orientation. A part with no warning may still have a steep overhang, which is why we look at both slices.

What you get

Both slices
Time and grams with supports off and on, with the exact presets, so anyone can slice it again and get the same.
The slicer's warnings
Floating regions and cantilevers, read from the slicer itself, part by part.
A verdict per part
Needs supports, try another orientation, or print it bare.
A farm if you want one
We can print the batch across our farms in Shenzhen, at the hours we quoted.
