Thin walls found before you print

You bought or designed an STL and are about to print 50 of it. A wall your nozzle cannot lay down shows up as a gap, a weak spot or a part that snaps in the customer's hand. Most checks only measure the outside size of the part. We measure every wall from the inside and tell you how thin it gets, how much of it, and where.

Why thin walls get through

The slicer drops them quietly. A wall thinner than two lines of your nozzle may print as one line, or not at all, with no warning.

Size checks look at the outside. A simple check on our test part said its thinnest wall was 36.8 mm. That is the part's height. The real walls are near 2 mm.

The mesh hides folds. Downloaded and exported meshes carry crumpled patches you cannot see in a viewer but a printer will find.

A real measurement, on a real part

A shell from our small walking robot: 21,344 triangles, 80.9 × 36.8 × 41.7 mm. About 160,000 measurements from the inside, done in under a second, 15 October 2026:

  • 2.20median wallhalf the surface is thicker than 2.20 mm
  • 1.39thinnest 5 %95 % of the surface is at least 1.39 mm
  • 1.00thinnest 1 %99 % of the surface is at least 1.00 mm
  • 0.01thinnest placetwo folded patches in the mesh, near (-38, 30, 35) and (11, 24, 36) mm

How much of it is too thin depends on your nozzle. Pick the limit:

Measured along each face's normal. Where the far side is tilted the reading is a little thick, and a sharp edge counts as a thin wall, which is how a printer sees it.

What you get

The real wall numbers
Median, thinnest 5 %, thinnest 1 % and the minimum, in millimetres.
The thin places, located
The ten thinnest spots with their coordinates, so you find them in your CAD in seconds.
Against your nozzle
How much of the surface is under the limit for the nozzle you print with.
Broken meshes named
Open or flipped meshes are reported as such, not given numbers that mean nothing.
