]01[ the problem
A steel fabricator gets the frame right and then pays for everyone else's model. Ducts and pipes run through beam webs, the openings are found on site, cut with a torch and a fire watch, and the engineer is asked after the fact. The shop cannot plan its saw line until the drawings settle, and the erector cannot plan picks until the shop says what ships. This page reads a real clinic's steel from the model and follows every piece from the saw to the crane.
]02[ the product
Tonnes per station week by week, by profile, and the pieces held while an opening is reviewed. Repetition in piece marks is counted, so the saw line is planned in batches.
Click a member: its mark, length, weight, both end connections as the model shows them, and every web opening with its position from the end and its depth. The engineer gets the openings screened against the beam depth and span, and decides.
Today's cut list grouped by mark, with the pieces that need a web opening flagged. Lengths come from the model, not retyped.
Crane picks for the day in erection order with the heaviest lift named, and the trailer loads arriving in the next three days with their marks.
]03[ what is real on this page
| Real | Simulated |
|---|---|
| The clinic's steel: every W460X60 beam, W250X67 and W150X22.5 column and 14K1 and 10K1 joist in the structural model (buildingSMART Medical-Dental Clinic, CC BY 4.0) | Shop and erection dates, stations and the 40-pick crane day |
| Lengths from geometry; weights from kg/m in the W profile name and the SJI joist table; piece marks as same profile and length to 10 mm | When the engineer approves each opening |
| End connections read from where each beam end lands: on a column, on a girder, or bearing | Connection types named from that (shear tab, double angle, joist seat); the connection designer sets the real ones |
| Every duct and pipe crossing steel, its depth and its position along the span | The screening rule (opening depth up to 60 % of the beam, middle half of the span) is a first pass, not a design check |
